Century House
takes to the
airwaves on
NBC’s ‘Wings’
Century House
Innkeeper Gerry
Connick and
Jeane Heron, the
husband-and-wife
team that
operates the
historic
Nantucket bed
and breakfast,
will appear on
the Paramount
Pictures
television
sitcom “Wings”
on Tuesday.
“We had a
wonderful time,”
Heron said
Wednesday
describing their
experience in
show business.
“It was exciting
to be on the
set. We didn’t
have any lines,
but there were
two scenes. One
at the airport
in the beginning
and then there
is a restaurant
scene and we are
there behind the
people. I don’t
want to say what
the story is,
but it is a
great story.
The made Gerry
take off his
Century House
hat. I wanted
to wear a
Century House
shirt but they
would not le
me. Everyone
wants to be on
‘Wings” because
they are all so
loving.”
The Century
House was chosen
by the “Wings:
producers in
1989 to serve as
the program’s
bed and
breakfast. The
Century House is
the oldest
existing and
operating guest
house on the
island today.
“It was exciting
not only to be
on the set but
to experience
the incredible
camaraderie
among the entire
‘Wings’ team,”
Heron said.
“The second
striking
impression was
to witness
firsthand the
dedication of
this
hard-working
team. Taping
the approximate
20-minute final
copy was the
result of a
workday for
approximately
200 people.”
The Century
House was
originally the
home of Captain
Robert Colder,
whose father
came to
Nantucket from
Scotland to
marry Mary
Pinkham, the
daughter of an
old Nantucket
family.
He made several
voyages and in
1838 returned to
Nantucket after
sailing the
Indian Ocean
around the Cape
of Good Hope as
captain of the
whaling ship
Alto.
