| Hidden Treasures... |
 |
|
This Newsletter's featured "hidden
treasure" on
Nantucket Island is the availability of several
dedicated Yoga professional Studios. Complementing
the Island's serene setting, what better place for a
wandering traveler to experience the peace of
Yoga Practice.
Innkeeper JeanE, along with
frequent Century House guest, Eileen Arsenault (a
yoga teacher herself) have been "on again/off again"
practitioners of Yoga for years and jumped at the
chance of attending a special Yoga Workshop
conducted with renown Teacher, Rolf
Gates and offered by Will & Natalie, founders of the
YogaSmith Studio on Nantucket Island. For more
information visit www.yogasmith.com.

| Weekend Yoga Workshop Offered |
 |
|
JeanE was first introduced to Rolf through his
book, "Meditations from the Mat" ( Random
House),
which Gerry gave her for Christmas a few years
ago... It has been a treasure of a book that she has
worn thin
with yellow hightlights and wise thoughts. The
weekend was dedicated to the use of energy and
intention both on the mats and in one's life. The
workshop combined intensive vinyasa practice
sessions with instruction in the principles of the
Anusara methodology, using these energies to
explore new dimensions of practice.
"What we carry in our hearts is who we are, and
who
we are is our gift to the world," Rolf says. To

| New Beginnings... |
 |
|
One of the most gratifying comments that we receive
from our guests is the enthusiasm, professionalism
and service that each brings to her
experience of the Century House from the first
phone conversation to the guest's day
of departure. Today, we introduce you to two of
these women - our newest employee and our most
senior staffer.
The "Newest Employee" is Otilia Herput.
She has lived in
the
US since 1996 and recently received her MBA in
Florida.
As the new interface with our visitors, Otilia's
responsibilities include the bi-monthly e-newsletter,
marketing, website, and reservations.
Her key impressions of Nantucket were, "the
charm, and the beauty of the flowers throughout the
season; the romance and the sense of retreat from
the demanding lifestyle of a full time student".
She also
included her sense of belonging within the Century
House: "This experience is very enriching. If walls
could talk, you would get a glimpse
of each guest's life in which we all partake briefly.
Everyone that passes through has a unique story to
tell, and shares his
or her life journey. This serves as a life lesson and
adds so much value to this historic inn."

| Old Traditions... |
 |
|
The "Most Senior Staffer" is Gloria Savizon,
a citizen of Jamaica. She has been part of our
family for four seasons. While Gerry and JeanE
quickly came to rely on her housekeeping skills to
ensure that the guest rooms are immaculate, staffers
and guests alike agree no one
does the job better. The final touches to bedding,
bath and decor have gained songs of praise richly
deserved.
When asked about her first impressions of Nantucket,
Gloria was surprised to see how grey and monotone
the views of the island were compared to the
colorful terrain and housing of her homeland. But as
the Season progressed, she had the opportunity to
visit behind the shingled façade "discovered that
Nantucket was truly a
land of paradise and color."

| Historic Century House |
 |
|
The historic Century House dates back to the Cliff
Road land purchase in 1833. According to research
performed by Edouard A. Stackpole, renowned
Nantucket historian and former director of the Peter
Foulger Museum, a member of an old Nantucket
family of Scottish roots, Captain Robert Calder, built
the Century House. Over the years, Capt. Calder
took part in several long, successful voyages to hunt
whale, and eventually completed the construction of
the house in the early 1840’s. It is said that Capt.
Calder chose this site because of the privacy, the
ocean breezes, the views, and the genuine serenity
the location provided in the 1840’s and still exhibits
today.
According to Mr. Stackpole, the Century House is the
oldest continuously operating guesthouse on
Nantucket Island to date.
Visit www.centuryhouse.com for details. Season
begins May 15 and ends October 18.

Fall on Nantucket... |
|
|
|
Fall on Nantucket is Gerry and JeanE's favorite time
to fall in love and celebrate romance; indeed they
got
married here October 19, 1985 - hosting their familiy
and friends at the Century House.
This time of year the weather is beautiful, the pace
less hectic than
the summer, and the Island's flora is so rich with
color.
Mauves, purples and lilacs cover the heather in the
moorlands (a Scotland experience close to home),
the deepest cranberry reds adorn the Island's
bogs, once claimed to be the largest contiguous bogs
in the World with natural barriers filtering the flood
processing during the harvest.
Celebrating their 20th Anniversary, the Innkeepers
say, "Check out the exceptional Century
House 'Special of all Specials' including
two exciting Festivals geared to tintalate your
imagination.
